anna + piper

Anna has enriched our lives. She continues to be a sheister, an escape artist, a compost thief, a shoe hider. She is also adorable and funny.

And, she follows Piper everywhere. In her kennel ...

And while eating (she won't eat until Piper has been served) and peeing (she waits until Piper is also let outside).

And while snuggling ...

Thankfully, Piper has never had a sense of personal space.

Even when it comes to sharing Mommy.

mom + kids

Matt was in the Cities last week, so the kids and mommy had a weekend by ourselves. We packed in as much fun and house projects as we could! Friday night the kids asked to go to the mall. We ate at Noodles, they each got to pick out something small to bring home with them, and we stopped at Rocky Mountain Chocolate factory for chocolate for the ride home. I explained to V that I needed chocolate as a "carrot" to get them to the car. She asked what that meant, and before I knew it she and I were playing donkey as we walked through the mall! It was funny and I think we amused a few of our fellow shoppers.

I had told the kids that Grandma's Marathon was happening on Saturday. She said, "Grandma? Grandma will be there?" haha ... I explained further, explained the sheer number of runners, and her next question (of course!) was, "Mommy!!! Can we go SEE it?"

She decided appropriate head decorations were in order. Her new stars and stripes headband, and snowman headband. I didn't ask questions.

At the race course, we found our friends the Roemhildts!

Jaedyn, Kylie, and Vic

Toria was so glad to see them, as the girls aren't at daycare this summer.

It was hot, so the kids hung out for awhile under umbrellas in the shade.

We were close to the Lakewalk, so Jaedyn and Vic eventually went off for some play time on their own.

Alex is happy wherever he has guys.

When they got too hot, tired, and hungry, we packed up and got scones at Great Harvest before picking up groceries, taking Alex home for a quick nap, then packing up for a slumber party at Grandma and Grandpa's!

The kids helped grandma decorate this Father's Day cake. A caterpillar covered in gummy worms and "dirt."

The kids had Mommy fill up water balloons the night before, but they weren't prepared for Grandma and Grandpa having water guns and a super soaker!

Grandma started out with the super soaker, but Vic insisted she was on "her team" before switching sides and taking the super soaker with her! haha ...

Everyone was soaked before we even got to enjoy supper.

The kids slept on an air mattress on the living room floor. Alex didn't love the sound of the air conditioner and did ask at one point if we could go home ;). Eventually both kids fell asleep, and Alex only woke up twice in the night to make sure Mommy was still there and give me kisses before laying back down.

Sunday morning, Father's Day. Adam, Megan, Molly, and Mason joined us for breakfast.

Piper had been put out all weekend that people kept taking her couch. Finally she found a comfy spot to lay and get attention.

Check out that Super Dad shirt! That came from us!

Alex wanted to hold Mason. His first time holding his little cousin!

My dad was so proud and happy. All THREE grandkids at his side.

When Mason got sleepy, magical grandma rocked him to sleep and held him for like an hour and a half. Awww ... I was a bit jealous of the snuggles!

Pics of the kids with the two dads that were present...

And finally, my parents with their grandkids.

There were more squirt gun fights and family craziness, and enjoying some of that delicious caterpillar cake.

I wanted to get Alex home for a nap, and so that I could clean up the house, mow the lawn, and work on the front porch. But Victoria got an extra-special treat. Not needing a nap, and with an easy-to-transfer booster seat, she got to stay at Grandma and Grandpa's all afternoon! She felt like such a big girl!

Such a treat to be surrounded by family, warm weather, fun, water, joy, and silliness.

Mother's Day

Mother's Day 2016 was the best.

I woke up in the morning to cards and chocolate waiting for me at the kitchen table.

It had been especially important to Victoria that she buy me a gift, and it was her idea to get chocolate.

This girl has such a big heart.

These two. They made my morning.

We went to church. And after, I requested a hike at Hartley.

We found hiking sticks.

Scrambled up big rocks.

And enjoyed the view together.

My heart grows just by looking at this picture.

Victoria wanted to climb down the other side. She was my adventurer and climber. Note how she is wearing a tank top and shorts.

Alex wore pants, long-sleeved shirt, and fleece jacket. Haha - their inner temperatures are so different!

Right after the above picture was taken, I noticed Alex, who had been a good sport all along, looking at the rock and kicking his feet along.

Me: "Alex, buddy, what's wrong?"

Alex: "I just wanna go home and pway wif my toys."

Awww. Cutie. I have to say even though at that moment he wanted his toys -- he was being a pretty good sport about the whole deal, with no whining about being there.

Vic had no desire to go home. She was queen of the mountain.

Since Matt was behind the camera for most of these, I tried to get a photo of him with the kids. Alex wouldn't cooperate.

But Daddy and V sure are cute together!

We walked off the hill and down more trails.

I asked Alex if he was having more fun (after watching him giggle chasing his sister). His reply: "Yeah, but I'm tired!"

We loved "The Tunnel Trail."

... and the forts built there.

As we got closer to the parking lot, Victoria wanted to bravely take a different trail on her way back, all on her own. "Mommy, can I just go this way and meet you there? You can see me the whole way."

Baby steps towards independence ...

We were starving. Victoria wanted mac and cheese, and Alex wanted pizza. So ... Bulldog Pizza for lunch!

And once this kid got his pizza, he sure perked right up! Look how messy he got!

After nap time, we headed to Cloquet. Sadly, it was for a funeral visitation, but we enjoyed ice cream at Gordy's afterwards.

My favorite Mother's Day gift from the year sits on our front porch.

Handpainted by the kids. Victoria glued the twine and did all the stamping. All the kids went with Lou in the big daycare van to Shopko to pick out pansies. V chose purple, A chose red.

(have I said how much I love LouLou's daycare?)

So precious, this gift ... AND the amazing children who made it.
